CHIANG MAI’S HOT AIR BALLON FESTIVAL

I was invited to the balloon festival in Chiang Mai and did not know what to expect. I thought it maybe a few hot air balloons, however it was a lot more magnificent!

I got of a bus at Chiang Mai bus station and got an uber to the event which is 5km away. I was greeted with balloons in the air and the smell of amazing foods coming from the masses of food trucks, each selling something different.

There was also delightful lanterns in the trees and live music playing. I was sleeping in a tent as the even was quite far from the city and in the mornings awoke to hot air balloons in the sky synchronized with specially composed music with the debut performance of the “The Tiger Drum and Opera” by Lanna Orchestra. One of the best ways I have ever been woken in the morning.

The event is placed on Cowboy Army Riding Club, which is a ranch, so you can play with the gorgeous animals, including horses, sheep and pigs.

Furthermore you can walk around all the boutique stalls and shop till you drop. Or participate in the many arts lessons the stalls provide through out the day.

There is lots to do here. It is set in the mountains and Doi Suthep, so if you fancy another adventure in the same day / weekend, you can go trekking in the national park too.

The event is magical and truly worth a visit if you are in Chiang Mai at the time it is on.

I will let the pictures talk for themselves!
