Soviet Secret Service Camp
Beschreibung
After the Sachsenhausen concentration camp was liberated by Polish and Soviet units, the Soviet secret service (NKVD) converted the facility into 'Special Camp No. 7'. Former NSDAP functionaries, those convicted by Soviet military tribunals and arbitrary detainees were imprisoned here. By the time the camp was closed in spring 1950, some 60,000 people had been imprisoned, of whom around 12,000 died of malnutrition and disease, including the film actor Heinrich George, who was successful in Nazi Germany.
